On Tuesday night SS Lazio qualified for the Coppa Italia quarterfinals after beating Genoa 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium, which was their first game in the knock-out competition this season so far.
Pedro Rodríguez, after scoring a decider in the previous Serie A match against Cagliari, was again in Maurizio Sarri’s starting eleven and wore the Biancocelesti captain's armband for the first time. So the Spaniard keeps on building his legendary career, as he has the honor of being skipper of FC Barcelona, Chelsea, and the Spanish National Team squads.
Soon the locals put themselves in the driving seat through Guendouzi, who scored in the first five minutes of the game. However, despite the early goal, Genoa pushed strong as a single goal would activate a chance to keep alive and lead to an extra 30 minutes.
However, the visitors could not overcome the strong defence displayed by the Biancocelesti, which are already one of those teams qualified for the quarterfinals.
