Lazio celebrated another victory at the start of Serie A Matchday 23, defeating Genoa 3-2 on Friday. Genoa put up a fight and refused to give up after Lazio took a 2-0 lead. Pedro started for Sarri and contributed to the win by scoring the first goal from the penalty spot.
Danilo Cataldi also converted a penalty to secure the victory for Maurizio Sarri's side, who had taken the lead through Pedro's penalty in the 56th minute and extended their advantage in the 62nd minute with a goal from newly arrived Dutch midfielder Kenneth Taylor, formerly of Ajax.
After a balanced first half, Lazio returned after the break with renewed strength and quickly found a chance when an Isaksen cross struck Aaron Martin's hand, resulting in a penalty which Pedro converted with great precision to put the locals ahead in the 56th minute.
Just six minutes later, Isaksen outpaced Martin to reach a long ball from Provedel and assisted Taylor, who scored his first goal for the Biancocelesti. Genoa were then awarded a penalty shortly after when Gila handled the ball following a shot from Malinovskyi, and the midfielder himself stepped up and beat Provedel with a powerful strike.
Eight minutes later, Malinovskyi's shot from a corner struck the post, the ball then deflected off Provedel and fell to Vitinha, who made no mistake and levelled the score for Genoa. However, Maurizio Sarri's team had a chance to secure the three points in the final moments after Ostigard handled a shot from Petar Ratkov. Cataldi kept his composure and placed his shot perfectly inside the post to secure the victory for the Biancocelesti, adding three points that are worth their weight in gold.
