As a former winner of the Champions League, Pedro knows the importance of going in to big European ties on the back of a good domestic win.
It is now 11 matches since we last tasted defeat, a run spanning two months. After late equaliser against Manchester United on Sunday, Pedro told the club’s official newsletter that results such as those have been crucial in restoring confidence at the Bridge.
‘The team is doing good right now, confidence is high and that’s good for us,’ explained the 28-year-old.
‘This weekend we have another opportunity to win and I hope the team go out to get that victory.’
In recent weeks, Guus Hiddink has stressed the importance of turning draws into victories, particularly at home where our past four league games have all finished level. That is a viewpoint Pedro reiterates, particularly when he considers crucial forthcoming games against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and Manchester City in the FA Cup.
‘It’s very important to improve our form at Stamford Bridge, to get three points at home and it will also be good for us ahead of the next games because we have some very difficult games in the next week or two, against PSG and Manchester City.
‘So it’s very important to win against Newcastle for our confidence before we play those next games.’
