Soon it will be three years since he made his official debut with Barça. That 12th of January 2008, at a Barça-Murcia League match, except Rijkaard, the feeling was that nobody trusted a forward from the second team called ‘Pedrito’, born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1987. Moreover, Camp Nou almost in unison echoed his name making a little fun of it. Nowadays, on the other hand, Pedrito has not only turned into Pedro, but he also has an undisputed place in the starting eleven. Last Saturday, against Espanyol, the striker from the Canary Islands showed again his best level. Two goals, an unpayable work both defending and attacking, strength and perseverance were his legacy. “It was my best match”, Pedro said yesterday to MD when talking about his performance in the derby at Cornellá-El Prat. “I finished the match very pleased with the victory and with the way things went for me”, he added.
Despite that in the beginning of this season there were people who dare to say that he had been short-lived, Pedro didn’t loose his confidence and continued working with the same naturalness and modesty as ever. “I said in November that I wasn’t being too accurate, but that the goals would arrive. I was always clam because given how the team was and with the help of my mates, I knew I was going to score again”, stated Pedro at the program ‘Tú Dirás’ in RAC1. “Now I’m at my best level. I feel very good on the pitch, as the rest of the team does”, stated the striker from the Canary Islands.
Pedro didn’t hide that the fixture against Espanyol was prepared with dedication and that it arouse great expectation at the dressing room because of the precedents against them. “It’s true that we were looking forward to get a good result against them because it’s a team that had been difficult before because its strength”, admitted the Barça ‘17’.
Although his enjoying like everyone with his team’s game, Pedro wanted to warn people against getting used to score five goals. “We have to seize this moment because we know we won’t be able to win 5-0 every match”, he stated. The striker from the Canary Islands knows that as the time goes by everybody will realize what this Barça is doing. “I know I’m in the best club of the world, with the best players, but you almost don’t have enough time to digest anything. After some time, when I’m not here anymore or when I will be retired, I’ll give more value to it”, he admitted.
