"We have to recover our best football"

In his assessment of last night’s FA Cup loss, Pedro highlighted the difference in finishing as being key to the outcome, and he also identified what must be done now if we are to finish a busy week well.

The Spaniard was denied by Sergio Romero in the Man United goal after he had kept out a David Luiz free-kick, and Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain also went close to scoring when a tight tie was still goalless. The visitors then netted twice leading up to the interval and defended diligently after the break to keep us at bay.

Pedro considered the positives from the first half, and also pointed out where we had to improve if we were to get a foothold in the game.

‘It’s a pity because it was a good opportunity for us to continue in this competition,’ he said.

‘It was a very bad day for us, for all the team. It’s a difficult situation. In the first half we played very well, we created chances to score one goal, but they had two situations and scored two goals.

‘The most important thing was to do a good job creating chances with the ball in the second half, but we couldn’t do it and for this reason it was so difficult for us to come back.’

With matches against Malmo and Manchester City on the horizon, the opportunity is there to return to winning ways quickly, and Pedro knows from experience what the route to recovery entails.

‘There is an important game in the Europa League for us, and after the final against City. The most important thing now is to stay calm, train really hard and recover our best football and our best feeling, because if not we are in trouble.’
