Roma are held to away stalemate vs Benevento (0-0)

Roma suffered a setback to their domestic ambitions as they laboured to a 0-0 draw with Benevento on Sunday evening. Pedro played in the final stage of the game after replacing Karsdrop  (72'), trying hard to score a decider but finally he could not repeat the goal he scored in the first leg of Serie A season at the Olimpico.

Looking to put some pressure on those at the top of the table, the Giallorossi were unable to find a breakthrough at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito - despite Kamil Glik's red card for the hosts early in the second half.

Paulo Fonseca's team struggled to create clear-cut chances - Lorenzo Pellegrini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan perhaps enjoying the best of them, although goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo dealt with both well - but thought they had found a way through at the very end, as substitute Stephan El Shaarawy was brought down in the penalty box.

However, an offside in the build-up saw VAR wipe away that award - ensuring the game ended goalless and leaving the visitors to rue what could have been.

Roma are next in action on Thursday, as they host Sporting Braga in the return leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.

Their next Serie A meeting is with AC Milan, as the side currently directly above them in Serie A head to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
