Pedro ready for first game in Blue away to WBA

The Blues travel this weekend for a consecutive Sunday away fixture. Pedro arrived this week to Stamford Bridge and is ready to play his first game for Blues at The Hawthorns. The Blues, who dominated the Premier League race last season, are now seeking what would be the second win in six league matches, although the first three of those were played after the title was won.

Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off is a chance to avenge one of the defeats in that sequence, West Bromwich Albion having won 3-0 in our last trip of the 2014/15 campaign.

In fact, with Manchester City having been the opener on the road, and the jaunt to Newcastle not far off, three of the opening four away games are at grounds where we dropped points last season; there were eight where that happened.

Chelsea have acted swiftly to regain the sparkle after an underwhelming start. On Thursday the signing was announced of multiple trophy-winning Spain international, Pedro. A hard-working wide player with remarkable pace and a knack of scoring vital goals, he will add versatility, consistency and experience to a squad that just needs things to go their way for once this campaign.

Two days before came Ghana international Baba Rahman. A wiry full-back who loves a tackle and is a good provider of arrowed diagonal crosses from deep. He has the potential to provide a new avenue of attack. Good Blues news at The Bridge.

Jose Mourinho will manage Chelsea for the 300th occasion, the fifth Chelsea manager to reach such a milestone.

So the fixtures computer clearly fancied handing the champions a tough start, and the Blues are one of only four teams required to play away for a second successive time this weekend.

Those grounds will be out of the way early, and a win at the Hawthorns would actually ensure Chelsea garner the same points total from these three opening fixtures – four – as were gained in the corresponding games last season.

The match at the Hawthorns will also be Jose’s 100th Premier League game away from the Bridge. His 99 so far comprise 60 wins, 20 draws and 19 defeats, gaining 200 from a possible 297 points.
