“Sunday was a very good day for us”

Pedro produced a superb display in the recent win over Crystal Palace, scoring and recording an assist, although the satisfaction of the team securing another important win outweighed any personal achievements for the Spaniard.

After a fairly quiet opening to the game, it was Pedro’s quick thinking which led to the opening goal, as he jumped back to his feet in the box and teed up Alvaro Morata to break the deadlock with a smart finish.

With Morata and Pedro both on the scoresheet, and Marcos Alonso and Pedro providing vital assists, it was a productive afternoon for our Spanish players.

‘Yes it was a very good day for us and for all the team,’ said Pedro. ‘The team worked very hard and I’m very happy to score a goal and get the three points because it’s very important for us to stay near the top and to continue in this way.

‘The team are playing very well, moving the ball with one or two touches, creating chances and winning games. The important thing for us is getting the three points but we just need to take it step by step and game by game.’

Pedro, who now has four goals this season, felt the team reacted well to the visitors scoring an equaliser eight minutes into the second half.

‘They have very good players in their team and for us it’s always difficult against them,’ he explained. ‘We were in good condition, playing well and creating chances but a draw is different.

‘After, when Alvaro scored again, we controlled the game and moved the ball faster, I then scored the third and that was good.’

It was another impressive display by Morata, who has now scored four goals in as many Premier League matches, and Pedro believes his compatriot is growing in confidence with every strike.

‘He’s in good condition and he had a very good performance,’ Pedro said. ‘He has the mentality to score goals and help the team, that’s the best way for him.

‘We are happy because he’s a very good striker. He runs a lot and scores goals, now he’s in a very good moment so this is the way for him. Scoring goals is very important for him and the team.’

Pedro also spoke about the options available to Maurizio Sarri in midfield, where we look particularly strong. Yesterday it was Ross Barkley who started alongside Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, while both Mateo Kovacic and Cesc Fabregas came off the bench and performed well.

‘It’s very difficult for Maurizio to choose the right decision but that’s good for the team, it makes us strong on the pitch,’ he said.

‘Also it’s good to have options. Ruben is in very good form, also Cesc, Jorginho, Kovacic, Barkley, so it’s very good for the team.’
