A first game, a first goal, a first assist, a first win – they all came at the Hawthorns back in August just two days after Pedro had signed for Chelsea. He scored the opener after 20 minutes and crossed for Diego Costa to double the lead soon after. Although West Bromwich Albion would also score twice and the Blues were reduced to 10 men early in the second half, Cesar Azpilicueta‘s goal just before half-time proved to be the winner on an afternoon when Spanish internationals prevailed and Pedro impressed.
‘Yes, I remember it very well,’ Pedro tells the official Chelsea website.
‘The players welcomed me very well that day in the changing room and it was a really good start to my Chelsea career.
‘The goal I scored was an important one and I will always remember it, my first in the Premier League and it was like a dream start, but West Bromwich are a strong team so it will be very difficult when we play them again but I am looking forward to it.’
Pedro contrasts his early experience of playing at home and away in a new country.
‘When you are not playing at home, the teams where you are playing make it more difficult for you obviously, but the surrounding and the atmosphere when we have games is good everywhere which is very typical of English football.
‘It always helps to have the support from our fans, definitely, including when we are not doing that well when the support is very nice.’
When Eden Hazard left the Palace game early due to injury, Pedro came on to play with Oscar and Willian as the three attacking midfielders behind Diego Costa which was a selection retained against Scunthorpe.
‘It is very good for me to have different challenges to overcome,’ he adds.
‘There is definitely more freedom of movement so it could be that Willian comes on the left and I go in the middle and Oscar goes on the right, or other changes. That makes it more challenging for the opponent who comes up against us.’
