Barcelona’s Pedro set to make history at Club World Cup

Should he manage to score a goal for Barcelona in the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, Pedro Rodriguez will record an achievement which has never been done before in the club’s 110-year history: to score a goal in six different competitions during a single season.

The 22-year-old club youth product has already scored at least one goal in each of Barcelona’s other five competitions this season (Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup) and his goals have proven to be decisive in a number of matches.

“We are showing very good form and hopefully the good streak of results can continue so we can take the title”, commented the youngster on the club’s official website.

“We are feeling very well and if I were to score a goal it would be great. For me it would be the end to a perfect year and for the entire team as well”.

Pedro has enjoyed enormous success after being called up to the first team by Blaugrana coach Pep Guardiola this season and looks to be well on his way to earning a call-up to the Spanish national squad before too long. With Lionel Messi rated doubtful for Barca’s semi-final match against Mexican side Atlante in the Club World Cup, Pedro will likely get a start, making his chances of setting the scoring milestone far greater.
